SustainHome Academy is a comprehensive housing stability and education initiative by the Neighborhood Housing and Development Corporation (NHDC). The Academy is designed to support at-risk homeowners, particularly low- to moderate-income families, veterans, disabled individuals, and the elderly, by equipping them with the tools, knowledge, and resources to sustain long-term homeownership and financial well-being.

NHDC launched the Foreclosure Intervention Matching Program in October 2024, and since then, it has grown into SustainHome Academy, which is focused not just on helping families in their time of need but also on building sustainability and longevity in homeownership.

SustainHome Academy addresses foreclosure prevention and transitional homelessness through two cornerstone programs:

  • Foreclosure Intervention Matching Program
Provides personalized support to homeowners facing financial hardship, including loan modification assistance, legal advocacy in partnership with trusted legal service providers, and direct financial support to prevent displacement.
  • Post-Purchase Counseling & Education
Offers workshops and one-on-one counseling on budgeting, credit repair, mortgage literacy, and estate planning, empowering families to manage their homes and finances more effectively.

As the only organization in Gainesville offering this level of foreclosure prevention counseling, NHDC fills a critical service gap. SustainHome Academy not only helps families stay in their homes—it builds resilience, financial independence, and community stability.
